Don't Be A Dinosaur

As 2012 winds down I thought it my duty to talk to you "true schoolers". You know who you are. The thirty- something rap fan that grew up in the golden era and somehow got your ass stuck there. I feel I'm the perfect dude to scream at you cuz I'm your age and in some cases, I'm sorry to say, I grew up with you. Since I still know some of you, I see your social media posts. And even though I try not too, I just cant help but read your rants about "real Hip-hop" or "what happened to Hip-Hop" or "in my day blah blah blah". I wish you would stop and see yourself the way others see you just for a second. Let me take you back.
Remember when you were 14, and you were playing that Old Dirty record to death at max volume. And some old timer, in your family or at school, came along with that sour puss on and said "you call that music"? Well that's you now. That makes me sad. Not cuz I care that much about what you like. But because when I was young, I somehow saw the Hip-Hop generation as being exempt from the "in my day" bullshit. Now I see shit a lil differently.
See, every generation has their music. They think that their shit is flyer than the next generations shit. My grand father don't wanna hear shit but Sinatra, and my dad won't budge off Hendrix. Neither one of them could stand the Hip-Hop that I grew up on. The funny thing though is that I love both those artists. There's a psychological explanation here that I won't get into, but what it really boils down to is. And get ready.

You don't love Hip-Hop like you claim you do.

Ill prove it to you. Go ahead right now and spit something from the funky four plus one, or Coldcrush. You're just attached to that 90's shit cuz you were young and cool then and you smoked your first blunt to it and you got your first blow job to it and you cut your first class to it. If you really loved It you would realize that it never went anywhere. There are all kinds of new talented artists making dope records in every style. Just cuz it doesn't fit the 90's mold that don't mean shit. Bam made disco records. Whodini and the Fat boys made POP records. And if its that gritty shit that you crave thats there too, in abundance. It may not be spoon fed to you on the radio but it never was. I had to listen to underground radio and buy mixtapes to hear that fly shit when I was young. I know you did too. Only difference today is the internet. Don't tell me you cant use the internet. You know who else cant use the internet? My grandpa. The Next time one of you true school guys comes over to hang I'm playing nothing but Sinatra.
